IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
The
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is designed to
test all the linguistic skill of a given student: Listening, Reading,
Writing and Speaking. There are two types of IELTS – Academic Module
and General Training Module.

The Academic Module is required for admission at UK colleges and
universities in the fields of medicine, law, linguistic sciences,
journalism, library science (a minimum of 7 points) and agriculture,
mathematics, telecommunications (a minimum of 6.5 points). A
successful preparation for this module requires a vocabulary of 12 000
words, phrases, slang expressions and an absolutely fluent oral
exposition.

The General Teaching Module is required when applying for practical jobs
such as air control, engineering, applied and industrial sciences (a
minimum of 6.5 points). For any other fields a minimum of 5.5 points
is acceptable. A successful preparation for this module requires a
vocabulary of 9 000 words, good command of the grammar system, fluent
oral exposition and commenting on general topics.
What is the format of the test?
LISTENING: 4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes
READING: 3 sections, 40 questions, 60 minutes
WRITING: 2 topics (150 и 250 words), 60 minutes
SPEAKING: conversation on different topics, 10-15 minutes
How to register for IELTS
The registration takes place at the British Council on 7 Krakra Str,
Sofia, from Monday to Thursday from 2 till 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 to
12 a.m. and closes 7 days before the test itself. The test fee is 195
leva and the test is administered once a month.
When are the score reports
received?
Ten
working days after the test you will receive your score report at the
mailing address indicated when registering. The IELTS certificate has
a two-year validity
